How to refill 1lb propane bottles using The Easy Fill Propane Refill tool

Is your tank a POL fitting such as what is used in Australia? The Easy Fill Refill Tool is a QCC1 connection. You will need a Universal Adaptor for the Easy Fill to work.

Important information before you begin

PLEASE USE THIS TOOL OUTSIDE - NOT INDOORS for your safety, this is really important. 

What you need to refill your 1lb propane bottles

Note: If your tank is POL (like in Australia), you will also need a Universal Adaptor)

How to refill your 1lb propane bottle using The Easy Fill Propane Refill Tool 

Step 1
Freeze your empty 1lb bottle. Place it in your freezer for at least 30 minutes. The cooler temperature of the smaller bottle allows for the propane to be transferred as liquid.  Go grab your kitchen scale.

Step 2
Take your 1lb bottle out of the freezer, weigh it and take note of the weight.

If your 1lb propane bottle has a plastic bottom, the average weight of an empty bottle is 384g. The total weight of it completely filled is 849g. (384g bottle weight + 465g propane weight)

If your 1lb propane bottle has a metal bottom, the average weight of an empty bottle is 417g. The total weight of it completely filled is 882g. (417g bottle weight + 465g propane)

Note: We recommend only filling the bottle to 80% capacity, so that when it warms up, the gas will have room to safely expand. 80% of 465g (1lb) is 362.9g, but let's round it up to 363g.

Step 3
Flip the 20lb propane tanks upside down.

Step 4

Attach The Easy Fill Propane Refill tool to the fitting of your 20lb tank (black end) and then attach the 1lb bottle to the refill tool.

Note: If you have a POL tank attach the  Universal Adaptor first so you have the QCC1 connection for the refill tool to attach to. 

Step 5
Open the 20lb propane tank. You will hear the 1lb bottle filling up. After about 30-45 seconds STOP. Close your 20lb tank, detach the 1lb bottle from the refill tool and weigh it. 

If the bottle is less than 80% full according to the scale, repeat the filling process. 

If you have accidentally overfilled the bottle, the safest way to dispose of the propane is to connect it to a gas burning appliance or a torch to burn the excess.

Step 6
Make sure your 1lb propane bottle is sealed with a cap or a torch attachment.
